Understanding the World

People, Communities

  • As children learn about the world around them they find out about the past through talking to parents, grandparents and friends and they develop an interest in their own story as well as the stories in their family – this is the beginning of developing an understanding of the past and helps them to learn about how.
  • They learn about cultural diversity through our celebrations- Diwali National Day International Day.

The World

How children perceive the natural world around them.

  • Science – is delivered through real-life projects and explorations, such as nature walks, where appropriate and gardening.  Investigations and researching concepts of interest I.e. bouncy balls, velcro, glue.
  • Technology – is integrated through readily available devices; such as remote-controlled cars and metal detectors. I pads are used by the  children to document their learning and support their memory and sequencing and follow simple programs or search for information during projects
  • Engineering –is a critical element within the nursery, from constructions in our vast open outdoor areas, to practical constructions of needed items, I.e. a cardboard door stopper.
  • Arts- are integrated into all aspects of our daily routines, from songs and rhymes to modeling and painting, extending into representations of feeling in dance and yoga.
  • Mathematics – Our Accelerated Math Programme facilitates an early introduction to the acquisition of numbers, patterns and associations in mathematical concepts,
